Phase #01: Start-Up
The aim of this phase is to introduce the topic. Students will reflect on their own media use and analyse the different steps in the life cycle of a mobile phone.

Phase #02: Development

This phase consists of four hands-on workshops based on experiential learning that allow learners to learn by doing things and by solving problems. The general idea is to give learners the opportunity to construct their knowledge through their own experiences.

The four workshops are:

  • Unblack the Box! (WS 1)
  • What’s inside your Phone? (WS 2)
  • Pin the Planet! (WS 3)
  • From Trash to Treasure (WS 4)

Each workshop includes an optional pre-workshop online-activity or video as well as a optional post-workshop online activity and treasure hunt to be completed after the workshop. The treasure hunt activities are designed to provide additional motivation especially for younger children. After each activity, they will receive a number to open a final treasure box with a 4-digit combination lock (filled with sweets, for example). The four numbers are 5149

Thus, the structure of the workshops is as follows:

A) Pre-workshop online activity or video to activate prior knowledge (optional)
B) Hands-on workshop
C) Post-workshop online activity and treasure hunt to consolidate knowledge (optional)

Phase #03: Consolidation

At this stage, some ideas are presented on what follow-up activities can be done.
