Environmental sustainability

Environmental sustainability aims to improve human welfare through the protection of natural capital (e.g. land, air, water, minerals etc.). Initiatives and programs are defined environmentally sustainable when they ensure that the needs of the population are met without the risk of compromising the needs of future generations.

Environmental issues could be a problem, when a huge resort will be built on the island. That is why the size of the holiday resort should be limited. But it could also be a chance for the island, if the construction of for example a sewage treatment plant, an improved water supply and such things would be part of the project.

I agree with Kathrina and the residents first and foremost and then the decision makers should be very careful in their actions and in accepting the hotel's rise. Sustainability of all kind should be respected and the real needs of the island should be considered.

Related to environmental sustainability, it is a must that the construction of the resort as well as the activities that will be developed as a result of its construction, ensure they don't compromise future generation needs. It would be much better if the resort would be made with local and recycled materials, that it will respect the terrain's structure and it will be integrated into nature as much as possible. Taking care of the type of construction and go for sth more eco-friendly, would surely help the whole thing be more environmentally sustainable.

I think this must be the first aim to achieve when thinking about constructing new buildings in an unspoiled natural environment, to protect the land, animals, minerals, water and to preserve the territory, thinking about the future generations. There are a lot of risks and problems but when a plan is well organized nothing is left to the chance.

I agree with Emiliana. Unfortunately for the resort supporters, the university is already predicting significant environmental damage. This must absolutely be taken into account.

I agree. It would be crucial for an independent environmental impact study to be carried out by a reputable and unbiased group to ascertain the level of disruption and damage to the local environment.

Environmental sustainability is definitely a significant worry in relation to this project. Building a large scale project like this is likely to have a negative on the local environment. Going forward it is also likely to put additional pressure on the existing natural resources because of increased tourism

If we don't preserve the environment, the rest of the sustainable things will end up failing. It should be the top priority, so if the construction of the resort and the resources put the environment in risk, it shouldn't be allowed. At least, until it's designed in an environmentally-friendly way.
