Title: LEARNING, TEACHING AND REFLECTING ON SUSTAINABILITY
The 1st Summer School (SS1) that took place in Larnaca, Cyprus, on 26th – 30th June 2023 focused mainly on piloting materials, resources and activities already developed under the Learning and Teaching Packages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (Work Package 2 of the TAP-TS project). It also offered plenty of reflection opportunities regarding resources and activities and aimed at starting a community of educators who promote education for sustainability. Moreover, the Summer School offered participating teachers (pre-service and in-service) ideas regarding approaches and practices that can be used to facilitate learning and teaching sustainability.

The 1st day of the Summer School aimed to create a common ground from which the participants would initiate an exchange of ideas and experiences, as they brought along diverse background and professional status. Therefore, activities on Day 1 focused on familiarizing the participants with the content of the TAP-TS project and with the reasoning around which the summer school was structured and offering the participants opportunities to discuss concepts and aspects of content of education for sustainability.
The
2nd day dealt with
further aspects of environmental sustainability, focusing on the issue of
digitality and the use of games to teach climate crisis resilience. A partners’
meeting was also held in the afternoon.
Day 3 was spent in Famagusta Province where qualified teachers working at the Unit of Education for the environment and Sustainable Development (Cyprus Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport) offered several activities. Indoor activities took place at Cape Greco Environmental Education Centre and outdoor activities were organized at Malama Beach in Paralimni (Protaras), where methods and practices for learning and teaching and policy for promoting sustainability were presented via indoor and outdoor activities and at plenary sessions.
Policy and holistic approach for teaching sustainability at the school level was the focus of Day 4.
The final day of the Summer School was dedicated to final reflections and evaluation.
